Jefferson County
Population 8,450. Location,
north-central. Gold and silver mining and the manufacture of
fire and potters' clay are extensively carried on. Chief
products: wheat, oats, barley, corn, potatoes, butter, cheese,
hay and live-stock. There are in the county flour and saw mills,
paper-mill, smelting works, brewery, railroad, machine and car
shops, and earthen and stoneware manufactories. Area, about 860
square miles.
