Tuolumne County
Population 6,082; stock-raising, mining
and fruits. Mining may be said to be the predominating interest,
though many other enterprises are gradually springing up. Fruit
raising, to which the soil is admirably adapted, is one of the
growing interests of the county. The almond and walnut are quite
extensively cultivated, and with encouraging results. The
assessed valuation of property in this county is $3,047,895.
Sonora is the county seat.

Ventura County
Population 10,071; agriculture and
fruits. The county produces with equal facility oranges, grapes,
olives and figs of Southern Europe, the nuts and fruits of
France and England, the hardy apples, pears and small fruits of
America, and the semi-tropic fruits of the South. Here are grown
with great profit and in great perfection English walnuts,
almonds, wine and table grapes, oranges, lemons, limes, olives,
figs, apricots, prunes, peaches, pears, apples, etc. The bee
industry is carried on very extensively; there are about 18,000
hives in this county. Ventura has a superficial area of 8,000
square miles, or say 5,120,000 acres. Ventura is the county
seat. The assessed valuation is $7,861,975.

Yolo County
Population 12,684; agriculture and
fruits. Yolo County lies almost in the heart of the Sacramento
valley. It contains about 1,500 farms, varying in size from 5
acres up to 4.000. The broad acres of Yolo devoted to grain are
estimated at 160,000. Potatoes and onions, carrots, parsnips,
beets, turnips, sweet potatoes, lettuce, green corn, peas,
string beans, peanuts, cabbage, cucumbers and melons are grown
extensively. Several thousand acres are devoted in the county to
the culture of raisins, wine and table grapes. Yolo containing
upward of 2,000,000 vines, nearly 150,-000 fruit trees, produces
annually from 60,000 to 75,000 tons of wheat, has 11,000 acres
of alfalfa laud, and an annual raisin crop of 120,000 boxes.

Yuba County
Population 9,636; agriculture, fruit,
and lumber. Grain-hay is grown in vast quantities. Vegetables,
especially potatoes, form the principal crop along the rivers.
Millions of feet of lumber, for home and foreign use, are
manufactured. In this county are some of the oldest olive trees
in the northern half of the State, which have been prolific and
continuous bearers for over twenty years. Fig trees produce
largely of fine fruit. Marysville is the county seat. Assessed
valuation, $7,032,225.
