Mississippi History & Genealogy

Mississippi, one of the southern United States, is bounded on the north by Tennessee; on the east by Alabama; on the south by Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico; and on the west by Louisiana and Arkansas, from which it is separated in part by the Mississippi River. It lies between about 30º 13′ and 35º north latitude, and between 88º 7′ and 91º 41′ west longitude. The state measures about 330 miles from north to south and about 170 miles from east to west. It contains approximately 48,434 square miles, or 30,997,760 acres.

This state project is part of the much larger American History & Genealogy Project or better known by the abbreviation of AHGP. It has been in existence online since 2000 and over the years has been spread out across the web. These pages are an attempt to consolidate it under one website of the larger project.
