Tennessee

One of the East Soutn Central states of the U. S. bordered on the N. by Kentucky and Virginia, and on the E. by North Carolina; on the S. by Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. The Mississippi River forms the W. boundary.

Tennessee became the 16th state to enter the Union on June 1, 1796.  During the Civil War, many battles occurred in Tennessee. Tennessee had an agricultural economy until the mid 20th century. when manufacturing became important. Nashville, the capital of the state and largest city, is considered to be the center of Country and Western music.
