Adams County

Population 2,085. The Northern Pacific passes through the entire length of Adams County. But little has been done as yet toward the development of the county, but the population is on the increase, and the outlook for the future is very promising.

Asotin County

Population 1,575; agricultural. This is a comparatively new and remote county, dependent mainly upon the river for transportation. The following figures are official, and from the latest returns: Value of land, $261,404; of taxable property, $610,023.

Chehalis County

Population 9,226. In this county Gray's Harbor is situated, containing the fertile valley of the Chehalis River, connecting in its eastern part with the Northern Pacific railroad. Value of real property, $1,600,564; total taxable property, $2,303,544. The chief industries of the county are lumbering, salmon-packing, stock-raising, oyster-fishing and general farming.

Clallam County

Population 2,757. Clallam County has an area of nearly 1,400 square miles, and 25 per cent, of it is suitable for agricultural purposes. It abounds in coal, iron, building stone, minerals and precious metals.

Clarke County

Population 11,635; chiefly agricultural. Clarke County is in close neighborhood with Portland. There are a large paper mill, a saw mill, a flouring mill, and a variety of local industries at La Camas, a busy and progressive town. Value of all taxable property, $1,097,008. Near the town of Vancouver is located the military station of Vancouver barracks.
