Deer Lodge County
Population
15,155. Large prairies, affording pasturage; soil in the valleys
fertile. Mining: gold and silver. This county is said to contain
the largest copper smelting works in the world, the "Anaconda,"
also the most productive silver mine, the Granite Montana. The
U. S. Penitentiary for Montana, the State Insane Asylum, and
College of Montana are also in this county.
