Polk County
Population 7,858; agriculture and
lumbering. Polk County contains about 500 or 600 square miles of
territory, and, generally speaking, it is arable country. Two
railroads connect Polk county with Portland, and its whole
eastern side fronts on the Willamette River. By the river it is
connected with the Oregon Pacific railroad at Albany and
Corvallis, with outlet on the ocean at Yaquina Bay.
