Columbia County is situated on the south side of the Columbia River, 37 miles above Astoria. Daily communication is maintained with Portland and river points by steamer.

Columbia Co, is situated on the west side of the Willamette River, 46 miles northwest of Portland. The manufacture of lumber and salmon canning are its source of support. Communication is maintained daily with Portland, Astoria, and other river points by steamer.

St Helen P O
Columbia County county seat and town of about 300 inhabitants, is situated on the south bank of the Columbia River, 27 miles north-west of Portland. The timber lands in the vicinity are its principal source of support, although some farming is carried on. A newspaper, called the Columbian, is published weekly. Daily communication is maintained with Portland and river points by the steamers of the Oregon Railway and Navigation Co.

Multnomah Co, is situated on the east side of the Willamette River, 6 miles below Portland. The works of the Oregon Barrel Manufacturing Co. are located here, giving employment to a number of men, and wood is supplied from this point for steamboat purposes. Daily communication is maintained by steamer with Portland and other river points.
